About Me:
I started my teaching career in Osaka, Japan in 1988.  I was not a licensed teacher; I worked for a Japanese company that sent English teachers to businesses throughout Osaka and surrounding metro areas.  It was at that point that I fell in love with teaching and decided to return to the US and obtain my certification.  After working for a short time as a reporter for The Garden Island, a small newspaper on Kauai, Hawaii, I returned to Minnesota and earned my MAT in English Language Arts and Speech/Theater from the University of St. Thomas in 1995.  (I received my undergraduate degree from the University of Minnesota.)

I began my career at Central while studying for my master's degree. I first interned with Jan Mandell's Central Touring Theater and later was hired as an EA for the in-school suspension room.  I spent my first year teaching in Minneapolis as a theater specialist for a K-8 school.  I returned to Central the following year as an English teacher.

In addition to teaching, I am active in the St. Paul Federation of Teachers (SPFT Local 28, executive board), Education Minnesota (governing board) and the National Education Association (NEA director).  Education Minnesota members hold dual membership with NEA and the AFT (American Federation of Teachers).
