The following is a list of subscription databases, online resources and search engines that are organized here for use by Central High School Students.

 

(EBSCO, Grolier Online, SIRS Researcher and Contemporary Literary Criticism require a username and password to be used when accessed outside of school. Please see Mrs. Erickson for the usernames and passwords.)

 

African American Registry :  A calendar-based series of accomplishments achieved by Black Americans in history. This registry includes audio and video clips, links to poetry and lyrics of the Black culture and 12 category links.

Bartleby.com: literature, quotations, reference and verse: Search by subject or select individual resources.

Contemporary Literary Criticism: Covers selected novelists, poets, critics, dramatists, and short story writers, now living or who died after 1959. Each entry contains a short biography, critical introduction, and excerpts from essays and book reviews taken from various sources and, if available, interviews with the author. EBSCO's: Databases include Academic Search Premier, Business Source Premier, MasterFILE Premier and Regional Business News.

Multidisciplinary database provides full text for more than 2,050 general reference publications with information dating as far back as 1975. Covering virtually every subject area of general interest, it also includes more than 350 full text reference books, 84,606 biographies, 88,463 primary source documents, and an image collection of 107,135 photos, maps and flags. This database is updated daily via EBSCOhost.  Tip:  Check box "full text."   (If you get a "Session is Expired" box, go to the SPPS district's online resource site below, find the"Online Resources" icon in the right hand column and look for  "EBSCO Databases")

 

Ethnic NewsWatch:Newspapers, magazines and journals: Ethnic, minority and native press provide a non-mainstream viewpoint.  Available in Spanish

Gale Group: Includes the Discovering Collection, Junior Reference Collection, Student Edition, Junior Edition, Informe, Informe (Spanish interface), Professional Collection, Kid's Edition Kind's InfoBits.

Gale Virtual Reference Library:  Specialized reference sources, encyclopedias, and almanacs for high school level research.

Grolier Online: Encyclopedias: A collection of seven online encyclopedias.

ProQuest Newspapers:  Newspapers, World-wide database holding thousands of newspapers.  Tip:  Check box  "full text."

SIRS Researcher:  Domestic and international newspapers, magazines, journals, and government documents.  Do a quick and easy search for anything relating to social, scientific, economic, and political issues worldwide.


Teen Health & Wellness: Comprehensive curricular support and self-help tools on topics including diseases, drugs, alchohol, nutrition, fitness, mental health, diversity, family life, and more.
